Camilla and Marc opened Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia on Sunday night at Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries and in the process took their audience on a journey to another world that celebrated both their return to the Sydney catwalk after a five-year absence and 15 years in business.

A futuristic ambience was achieved with a Mars-red dirt landscape, where piles of boulders and mounds of sand sat under a giant glowing moon. Models – including Vogue Australia cover girl Charlee Fraser and New Zealand’s Victoria’s Secret model Georgia Fowler – navigated the terrain.

Brother-sister duo Camilla Freeman Topper and Marc Freeman’s signature product offerings – luxe party wear, classic tailoring and structured work-ready separates – are in keeping with international trends, reaffirming that bell sleeves and off-the-shoulder silhouettes and are not going anywhere.

Silk chiffon and sheer lurex give a feeling of weightlessness, while a colour palette of khaki, creamy pastels, marshmallow pink and shimmery metallics complete the outer space feel.

The oversized bag is taken to new extremes in the sleek resort collection. Or fold it in half for an effortlessly chic business-casual look. My brain says impractical but my heart still wants it.

The explicitly chic collection will be hard to beat this MBFWA.
